Patient information

Gynecology is a medical specialty that focuses on women’s reproductive health, including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the female reproductive system. This includes organs such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva. Gynecologists are doctors who specialize in this field and have knowledge and experience in both medical and surgical treatment of gynecological problems.

A gynecological examination is an important part of women’s healthcare. This examination usually involves a physical examination of the external genitalia, as well as an internal examination using a speculum. During the internal examination, the doctor may inspect the cervix and vagina to detect any abnormalities or signs of disease. In addition, tests such as cell samples can also be carried out to check for cell changes or infections.

Gynecology also includes other important aspects of women’s health, such as contraception, pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. Gynecologists can advise on different contraceptive methods and help women choose the method that is best for them. During pregnancy, gynecologists can monitor the development of the fetus and provide the necessary medical follow-up to ensure a healthy pregnancy and birth. In addition, gynecologists can also treat and manage complications that may arise during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes or high blood pressure.
